Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libpam-sss on Ubuntu.
What is libpam-sss
libpam-sss is:
Provides a set of daemons to manage access to remote directories and authentication mechanisms. It provides an NSS and PAM interface toward the system and a pluggable backend system to connect to multiple different account sources. It is also the basis to provide client auditing and policy services for projects like FreeIPA.
This package provide the pam module to connect to the sssd daemon.
There are three methods to install libpam-sss on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libpam-sss Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libpam-sss using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libpam-sss
Install libpam-sss Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libpam-sss using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libpam-sss
Install libpam-sss Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libpam-sss using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libpam-sss
How To Uninstall libpam-sss on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libpam-sss package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libpam-sss
Uninstall libpam-sss And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libpam-sss and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libpam-sss
Remove libpam-sss Configurations and Data
To remove libpam-sss configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libpam-sss
Remove libpam-sss configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libpam-sss configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libpam-sss
