In this tutorial we learn how to install libopenjfx-java on Ubuntu.
What is libopenjfx-java
libopenjfx-java is:
JavaFX/OpenJFX is a set of graphics and media APIs that enables Java developers to design, create, test, debug, and deploy rich client applications that operate consistently across diverse platforms.
This package contains the Java libraries only, installing it won’t add the JavaFX classes to the default classpath automatically. The integration with the JRE is provided by the openjfx package.
There are three methods to install libopenjfx-java on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libopenjfx-java Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libopenjfx-java using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libopenjfx-java
Install libopenjfx-java Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libopenjfx-java using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libopenjfx-java
Install libopenjfx-java Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libopenjfx-java using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libopenjfx-java
How To Uninstall libopenjfx-java on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libopenjfx-java package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libopenjfx-java
Uninstall libopenjfx-java And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libopenjfx-java and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libopenjfx-java
Remove libopenjfx-java Configurations and Data
To remove libopenjfx-java configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libopenjfx-java
Remove libopenjfx-java configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libopenjfx-java configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libopenjfx-java
