In this tutorial we learn how to install libopenal-data on Ubuntu.
What is libopenal-data
libopenal-data is:
OpenAL, the Open Audio Library, is a joint effort to create an open, vendor-neutral, cross-platform API for interactive, primarily spatialized audio. OpenAL’s primary audience are application developers and desktop users that rely on portable standards like OpenGL, for games and other multimedia applications.
This package installs data files used by the OpenAL Soft shared library.
There are three methods to install libopenal-data on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libopenal-data Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libopenal-data using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libopenal-data
Install libopenal-data Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libopenal-data using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libopenal-data
Install libopenal-data Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libopenal-data using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libopenal-data

To uninstall only the libopenal-data package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libopenal-data

To uninstall libopenal-data and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libopenal-data
Remove libopenal-data Configurations and Data
To remove libopenal-data configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libopenal-data
