Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libode8
on Ubuntu.
What is libode8
libode8 is:
ODE is a free, industrial quality library for simulating articulated rigid body dynamics - for example ground vehicles, legged creatures, and moving objects in VR environments. It is fast, flexible, robust and platform independent, with advanced joints, contact with friction, and built-in collision detection.
This package provides the shared libraries built with double precision, default in 64 bits platforms. In 32 bits platforms default is single precision.
There are three methods to install libode8
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libode8 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libode8
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libode8
Install libode8 Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libode8
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libode8
Install libode8 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libode8
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libode8
How To Uninstall libode8 on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libode8
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libode8
Uninstall libode8 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libode8
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libode8
Remove libode8 Configurations and Data
To remove libode8
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libode8
Remove libode8 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libode8

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libode8
