How To Install libnvvm4 on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libnvvm4 on Ubuntu.

What is libnvvm4

libnvvm4 is:

NVIDIA’s CUDA Compiler (NVCC) is based on the widely used LLVM open source compiler infrastructure.

The NVVM library is used by NVCC to compile CUDA binary code to run on NVIDIA GPUs.

This package contains the NVIDIA NVVM runtime library.

There are three methods to install libnvvm4 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libnvvm4 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libnvvm4 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libnvvm4

Install libnvvm4 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libnvvm4 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libnvvm4

Install libnvvm4 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libnvvm4 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libnvvm4

How To Uninstall libnvvm4 on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libnvvm4 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libnvvm4

Uninstall libnvvm4 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libnvvm4 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libnvvm4

Remove libnvvm4 Configurations and Data

To remove libnvvm4 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libnvvm4

Remove libnvvm4 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libnvvm4 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libnvvm4
