Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libnids-dev on Ubuntu.

What is libnids-dev

libnids-dev is:

Libnids is a library that provides the functionality of one of the NIDS (Network Intrusion Detection System) components, namely E-component. Libnids code watches all local network traffic, cooks received datagrams a bit, and provides convenient information about them to the NIDS analyzing modules. Libnids performs assembly of TCP segments into TCP streams, IP defragmentation, and TCP port scan detection.

This is the development package.

There are three methods to install libnids-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libnids-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libnids-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libnids-dev

Install libnids-dev Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libnids-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libnids-dev

Install libnids-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libnids-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libnids-dev

How To Uninstall libnids-dev on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libnids-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libnids-dev

Uninstall libnids-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libnids-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libnids-dev

Remove libnids-dev Configurations and Data

To remove libnids-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libnids-dev

Remove libnids-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libnids-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libnids-dev
