Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libmpich12 on Ubuntu.
What is libmpich12
libmpich12 is:
MPICH is a high-performance and widely portable implementation of the MPI-3.1 standard from the Argonne National Laboratory. It efficiently supports different computation and communication platforms including commodity clusters, SMPs, massively parallel systems, and high-speed networks. This release has all MPI 3.1 functions and features required by the standard with the exception of support for the “external32” portable I/O format and user-defined data representations for I/O.
This package includes the MPICH shared libraries.
There are three methods to install libmpich12 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libmpich12 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libmpich12 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libmpich12
Install libmpich12 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libmpich12 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libmpich12
Install libmpich12 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libmpich12 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libmpich12
How To Uninstall libmpich12 on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libmpich12 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libmpich12
Uninstall libmpich12 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libmpich12 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libmpich12
Remove libmpich12 Configurations and Data
To remove libmpich12 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libmpich12
