Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install liblzma5 on Ubuntu.

What is liblzma5

liblzma5 is:

XZ is the successor to the Lempel-Ziv/Markov-chain Algorithm compression format, which provides memory-hungry but powerful compression (often better than bzip2) and fast, easy decompression.

The native format of liblzma is XZ; it also supports raw (headerless) streams and the older LZMA format used by lzma. (For 7-Zip’s related format, use the p7zip package instead.)

There are three methods to install liblzma5 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install liblzma5 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install liblzma5 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install liblzma5

Install liblzma5 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install liblzma5 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install liblzma5

Install liblzma5 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install liblzma5 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install liblzma5

How To Uninstall liblzma5 on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the liblzma5 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove liblzma5

Uninstall liblzma5 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall liblzma5 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove liblzma5

Remove liblzma5 Configurations and Data

To remove liblzma5 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge liblzma5

We can use the following command to remove liblzma5 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
