Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libjgroups-java on Ubuntu.
What is libjgroups-java
libjgroups-java is:
JGroups is a toolkit for reliable multicast communication. (Note that this doesn’t necessarily mean IP Multicast, JGroups can also use transports such as TCP). It can be used to create groups of processes whose members can send messages to each other. The main features include:
- Group creation and deletion. Group members can be spread across LANs or WANs
- Joining and leaving of groups
- Membership detection and notification about joined/left/crashed members
- Detection and removal of crashed members
- Sending and receiving of member-to-group messages (point-to-multipoint)
- Sending and receiving of member-to-member messages (point-to-point)
There are three methods to install libjgroups-java on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libjgroups-java Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libjgroups-java using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libjgroups-java
Install libjgroups-java Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libjgroups-java using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libjgroups-java
Install libjgroups-java Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libjgroups-java using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libjgroups-java
How To Uninstall libjgroups-java on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libjgroups-java package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libjgroups-java
Uninstall libjgroups-java And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libjgroups-java and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libjgroups-java
Remove libjgroups-java Configurations and Data
To remove libjgroups-java configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libjgroups-java
Remove libjgroups-java configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libjgroups-java configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libjgroups-java
