In this tutorial we learn how to install libhdate-dev on Ubuntu.

What is libhdate-dev

libhdate-dev is:

LibHdate is a small C,C++ library for Hebrew dates, holidays, and reading sequence (parasha). It is using the source code from Amos Shapir’s “hdate” package fixed and patched by Nadav Har’El. The Torah reading sequence is from tables by Zvi Har’El.

This package contains headers and support files required to build new applications with libhdate.

There are three methods to install libhdate-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libhdate-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libhdate-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libhdate-dev

Install libhdate-dev Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libhdate-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libhdate-dev

Install libhdate-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libhdate-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libhdate-dev

How To Uninstall libhdate-dev on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libhdate-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libhdate-dev

Uninstall libhdate-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libhdate-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libhdate-dev

Remove libhdate-dev Configurations and Data

To remove libhdate-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libhdate-dev

Remove libhdate-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libhdate-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libhdate-dev
