In this tutorial we learn how to install libgmock-dev on Ubuntu.
What is libgmock-dev
libgmock-dev is:
Inspired by jMock, EasyMock, and Hamcrest, and designed with C++’s specifics in mind, it can help you derive better designs of your system and write better tests.
Google Mock:
- provides a declarative syntax for defining mocks,
- can easily define partial (hybrid) mocks, which are a cross of real and mock objects,
- handles functions of arbitrary types and overloaded functions,
- comes with a rich set of matchers for validating function arguments,
- uses an intuitive syntax for controlling the behavior of a mock,
- does automatic verification of expectations (no record-and-replay needed),
- allows arbitrary (partial) ordering constraints on function calls to be expressed,
- lets a user extend it by defining new matchers and actions.
- does not use exceptions, and
- is easy to learn and use.
There are three methods to install libgmock-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libgmock-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libgmock-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libgmock-dev

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libgmock-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libgmock-dev
How To Uninstall libgmock-dev on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libgmock-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libgmock-dev

To uninstall libgmock-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
