Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libgavl2 on Ubuntu.
What is libgavl2
libgavl2 is:
Gavl handles all the details of audio and video formats like colorspaces, samplerates, multichannel configurations etc. It provides standardized definitions for those formats as well as container structures for carrying audio samples or video images inside an application.
In addition, it handles the sometimes ugly task to convert between all these formats and provides some elementary operations (copying, scaling, alpha blending etc).
This package contains the files needed to run a program compiled using Gavl.
There are three methods to install libgavl2 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libgavl2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libgavl2 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libgavl2
Install libgavl2 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libgavl2 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libgavl2
Install libgavl2 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libgavl2 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libgavl2
How To Uninstall libgavl2 on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libgavl2 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libgavl2
Uninstall libgavl2 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libgavl2 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgavl2
Remove libgavl2 Configurations and Data
To remove libgavl2 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libgavl2
