In this tutorial we learn how to install libgav1-0 on Ubuntu.

What is libgav1-0

libgav1-0 is:

This package contains the runtime, shared library of gav1. Gav1 is a new decoder implementation for AV1 video encoding format (supporting profiles 0 and 1).

There are three methods to install libgav1-0 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libgav1-0 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libgav1-0 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libgav1-0

Install libgav1-0 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libgav1-0 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libgav1-0

Install libgav1-0 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libgav1-0 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libgav1-0

How To Uninstall libgav1-0 on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libgav1-0 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libgav1-0

Uninstall libgav1-0 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libgav1-0 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgav1-0

Remove libgav1-0 Configurations and Data

To remove libgav1-0 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libgav1-0

Remove libgav1-0 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libgav1-0 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libgav1-0
