In this tutorial we learn how to install libftdi1
on Ubuntu.
What is libftdi1
libftdi1 is:
This library could talk to FTDI’s FT232 and FT245 type USB chips from userspace. It uses libusb to communicate with the chips.
Functionalities include the possibility to use the chips in standard mode, in bitbang mode, and to read or write the serial EEPROM.
This is the C version of the library.
There are three methods to install libftdi1
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libftdi1 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libftdi1
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libftdi1

using aptitude

package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libftdi1

and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libftdi1

configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libftdi1
