In this tutorial we learn how to install libemf1 on Ubuntu.
What is libemf1
libemf1 is:
libEMF is a C/C++ library which provides a drawing toolkit based on ECMA-234. The general purpose of this library is to create vector graphics files on POSIX systems which can be imported into OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice. Times have changed, though. These days, you can import SVGs, or even PDFs, into OpenOffice or LibreOffice. Those are much better choices than EMF files.
This package contains the files necessary for running applications that use the libEMF library.
There are three methods to install libemf1 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libemf1 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libemf1 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libemf1

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libemf1 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libemf1
Install libemf1 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libemf1 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libemf1
How To Uninstall libemf1 on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libemf1 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libemf1

To uninstall libemf1 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libemf1
Remove libemf1 Configurations and Data
To remove libemf1 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libemf1
