In this tutorial we learn how to install libdevice-serialport-perl on Ubuntu.

What is libdevice-serialport-perl

libdevice-serialport-perl is:

Device::SerialPort provides an object-based user interface essentially identical to the one provided by the Win32::SerialPort module. This provides device-level access to a system’s serial port.

Also included is modemtest – a tool for examining your modem using Device::SerialPort.

There are three methods to install libdevice-serialport-perl on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libdevice-serialport-perl Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libdevice-serialport-perl using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update
