Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libdb1-compat on Ubuntu.
What is libdb1-compat
libdb1-compat is:
libdb is a library for manipulating database files, developed at Berkeley.
It supports three kinds of file formats:
- btree. A representation of a sorted, balanced tree structure.
- hashed. An extensible, dynamic hashing scheme.
- UNIX file oriented. A byte stream file with fixed or variable length records.
This library exists for compatibility with applications built against glibc 2.0 or 2.1. There is intentionally no corresponding development package. Do not link new applications against this library!
There are three methods to install libdb1-compat on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libdb1-compat Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libdb1-compat using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libdb1-compat
Install libdb1-compat Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libdb1-compat using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libdb1-compat
Install libdb1-compat Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libdb1-compat using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libdb1-compat
How To Uninstall libdb1-compat on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libdb1-compat package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libdb1-compat
Uninstall libdb1-compat And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libdb1-compat and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libdb1-compat
Remove libdb1-compat Configurations and Data
To remove libdb1-compat configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libdb1-compat
Remove libdb1-compat configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libdb1-compat configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libdb1-compat
