What is libcrypt1

libcrypt1 is:

libxcrypt is a modern library for one-way hashing of passwords. It supports DES, MD5, NTHASH, SUNMD5, SHA-2-256, SHA-2-512, and bcrypt-based password hashes It provides the traditional Unix ‘crypt’ and ‘crypt_r’ interfaces, as well as a set of extended interfaces like ‘crypt_gensalt’.

There are three methods to install libcrypt1 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libcrypt1 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libcrypt1 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libcrypt1

Install libcrypt1 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libcrypt1 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libcrypt1

Install libcrypt1 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libcrypt1 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libcrypt1

How To Uninstall libcrypt1 on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libcrypt1 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libcrypt1

Uninstall libcrypt1 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libcrypt1 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcrypt1

Remove libcrypt1 Configurations and Data

To remove libcrypt1 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libcrypt1

We can use the following command to remove libcrypt1 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
