How To Install libcpuid15 on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libcpuid15 on Ubuntu.

What is libcpuid15

libcpuid15 is:

libcpuid is a small C library for x86 CPU detection and feature extraction. Using it, you can:

- get the processor vendor, model, brand string, code name,
- get information about CPU features such as: number of cores or logical
  CPUs, cache sizes, CPU clock,
- check if the processor implements a specific instruction set such as
  the SSE2, 3DNow!,
- execute the CPUID and RDTSC instructions (portably!)

This package ships the libcpuid shared library.

There are three methods to install libcpuid15 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libcpuid15 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libcpuid15 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libcpuid15

Install libcpuid15 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libcpuid15 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libcpuid15

Install libcpuid15 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libcpuid15 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libcpuid15

How To Uninstall libcpuid15 on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libcpuid15 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libcpuid15

Uninstall libcpuid15 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libcpuid15 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcpuid15

Remove libcpuid15 Configurations and Data

To remove libcpuid15 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libcpuid15

Remove libcpuid15 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libcpuid15 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libcpuid15
