In this tutorial we learn how to install libcfg-dev on Ubuntu.
What is libcfg-dev
libcfg-dev is:
The Corosync Cluster Engine is a Group Communication System with additional features for implementing high availability within applications. The project provides four C Application Programming Interface features:
- A closed process group communication model with virtual synchrony guarantees for creating replicated state machines.
- A simple availability manager that restarts the application process when it has failed.
- A configuration and statistics in-memory database that provide the ability to set, retrieve, and receive change notifications of information.
- A quorum system that notifies applications when quorum is achieved or lost.
This package contains the headers and other necessary files to build applications or libraries that use the CFG library.
There are three methods to install libcfg-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libcfg-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libcfg-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libcfg-dev

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libcfg-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libcfg-dev

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libcfg-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libcfg-dev
How To Uninstall libcfg-dev on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libcfg-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libcfg-dev
Uninstall libcfg-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libcfg-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcfg-dev
Remove libcfg-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libcfg-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libcfg-dev
