In this tutorial we learn how to install libcaca-dev on Ubuntu.

What is libcaca-dev

libcaca-dev is:

libcaca is the Colour AsCii Art library. It provides high level functions for colour text drawing, simple primitives for line, polygon and ellipse drawing, as well as powerful image to text conversion routines.

This package contains the header files and static libraries needed to compile applications or shared objects that use libcaca.

There are three methods to install libcaca-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libcaca-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libcaca-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libcaca-dev

Install libcaca-dev Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libcaca-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libcaca-dev

Install libcaca-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libcaca-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libcaca-dev

How To Uninstall libcaca-dev on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libcaca-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libcaca-dev

Uninstall libcaca-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libcaca-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcaca-dev

Remove libcaca-dev Configurations and Data

To remove libcaca-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libcaca-dev

We can use the following command to remove libcaca-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
