Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libappstream-glib8
on Ubuntu.
What is libappstream-glib8
libappstream-glib8 is:
AppStream is a cross-distribution effort for creating and sharing metadata about software components available in the package repositories of a distribution.
This package contains a GObject-based library to read and write AppStream XML metadata and retrieve additional data such as screenshots.
As opposed to libappstream, this library does not use an on-disk cache but reads data directly from the XML or DEP-11 YAML files.
There are three methods to install libappstream-glib8
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libappstream-glib8 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libappstream-glib8
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libappstream-glib8
Install libappstream-glib8 Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libappstream-glib8
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libappstream-glib8
Install libappstream-glib8 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libappstream-glib8
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libappstream-glib8
How To Uninstall libappstream-glib8 on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libappstream-glib8
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libappstream-glib8
Uninstall libappstream-glib8 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libappstream-glib8
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libappstream-glib8
Remove libappstream-glib8 Configurations and Data
To remove libappstream-glib8
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libappstream-glib8
Remove libappstream-glib8 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libappstream-glib8
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libappstream-glib8
