In this tutorial we learn how to install libao-common
on Ubuntu.
What is libao-common
libao-common is:
Libao is a cross-platform audio library that allows programs to output audio using a simple API on a wide variety of platforms. It currently supports:
- Null output (handy for testing without a sound device)
- WAV files
- AU files
- OSS (Open Sound System, used on Linux and FreeBSD)
- ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture)
- PulseAudio (next generation GNOME sound server)
- and several others.
This package contains config files and man pages for libao.
There are three methods to install libao-common
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libao-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libao-common
using apt-get

To uninstall only the libao-common
