Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install krb5-multidev on Ubuntu.
What is krb5-multidev
krb5-multidev is:
Kerberos is a system for authenticating users and services on a network. Kerberos is a trusted third-party service. That means that there is a third party (the Kerberos server) that is trusted by all the entities on the network (users and services, usually called “principals”).
This is the MIT reference implementation of Kerberos V5.
Most users wishing to build applications against MIT Kerberos should install libkrb5-dev. However, that package conflicts with heimdal-dev. This package installs libraries and headers in /usr/include/mit-krb5 and /usr/lib/mit-krb5 and can be installed along side heimdal-multidev, which provides the same facilities for Heimdal.
There are three methods to install krb5-multidev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install krb5-multidev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install krb5-multidev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install krb5-multidev
Install krb5-multidev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install krb5-multidev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install krb5-multidev
Install krb5-multidev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install krb5-multidev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install krb5-multidev
How To Uninstall krb5-multidev on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the krb5-multidev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove krb5-multidev
Uninstall krb5-multidev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall krb5-multidev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove krb5-multidev
Remove krb5-multidev Configurations and Data
To remove krb5-multidev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge krb5-multidev
Remove krb5-multidev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove krb5-multidev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge krb5-multidev
