In this tutorial we learn how to install kid3 on Ubuntu.

What is kid3

kid3 is:

With Kid3, an ID3 tag editor for KDE you can:

• Edit ID3v1.1 tags in your MP3 files
• Edit all ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4 frames in your MP3 files
• Convert between ID3v1.1, ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4 tags
• Edit tags in MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, Opus, DSF, FLAC, MPC, APE, MP4/AAC, MP2, Speex, TrueAudio, WavPack, WMA, WAV, AIFF files and tracker modules.
• Edit tags of multiple files, e.g. the artist, album, year and genre of all files of an album typically have the same values and can be set together
• Generate tags from filenames
• Generate tags from the contents of tag fields
• Generate filenames from tags
• Generate playlist files
• Automatic case conversion and string translation
• Import and export album data
• Import from gnudb.org, MusicBrainz, Discogs, Amazon

This package uses KDE libraries, if you do not use KDE you should use kid3-qt.

There are three methods to install kid3 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install kid3 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install kid3 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install kid3

Install kid3 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install kid3 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install kid3

Install kid3 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install kid3 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install kid3

How To Uninstall kid3 on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the kid3 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove kid3

Uninstall kid3 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall kid3 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove kid3

Remove kid3 Configurations and Data

To remove kid3 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge kid3

Remove kid3 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove kid3 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge kid3
