What is `jython`

Jython is an implementation of the high-level, dynamic, object-oriented language Python seamlessly integrated with the Java platform. The predecessor to Jython, JPython, is certified as 100% Pure Java.

Jython is complementary to Java and allows the two languages to be freely mixed. It is especially suited for embedded scripting, interactive experimentation and rapid application development, and it can interact with Java packages or with running Java applications.

There are three methods to install jython on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install jython Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install jython using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install jython

Install jython Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install jython using apt by running the following command:

Install jython Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

How To Uninstall jython on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the jython package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove jython

To remove jython configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
