What is isc-dhcp-client
isc-dhcp-client is:
This is the Internet Software Consortium’s DHCP client.
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a protocol like BOOTP (actually dhcpd includes much of the functionality of bootpd). It gives client machines “leases” for IP addresses and can automatically set their network configuration. If your machine depends on DHCP (especially likely if it’s a workstation on a large network, or a laptop, or attached to a cable modem), keep this or another DHCP client installed.

There are three methods to install isc-dhcp-client
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install isc-dhcp-client Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install isc-dhcp-client
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install isc-dhcp-client
Install isc-dhcp-client Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install isc-dhcp-client
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install isc-dhcp-client

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install isc-dhcp-client
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install isc-dhcp-client
How To Uninstall isc-dhcp-client on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the isc-dhcp-client
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove isc-dhcp-client
Uninstall isc-dhcp-client And Its Dependencies
To uninstall isc-dhcp-client
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove isc-dhcp-client
Remove isc-dhcp-client Configurations and Data
To remove isc-dhcp-client
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge isc-dhcp-client
Remove isc-dhcp-client configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
