How To Install ironic-common on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ironic-common on Ubuntu.

What is ironic-common

ironic-common is:

Ironic is an Incubated OpenStack project which aims to provision bare metal machines instead of virtual machines, forked from the Nova Baremetal driver. It is best thought of as a bare metal hypervisor API and a set of plugins which interact with the bare metal hypervisors. By default, it will use PXE and IPMI in concert to provision and turn on/off machines, but Ironic also supports vendor-specific plugins which may implement additional functionality.

This package contains the common files.

There are three methods to install ironic-common on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ironic-common Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ironic-common using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ironic-common

Install ironic-common Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ironic-common using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ironic-common

Install ironic-common Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ironic-common using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ironic-common

How To Uninstall ironic-common on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the ironic-common package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ironic-common

Uninstall ironic-common And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ironic-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ironic-common

Remove ironic-common Configurations and Data

To remove ironic-common configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ironic-common

Remove ironic-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ironic-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ironic-common
