How To Install ipband on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ipband on Ubuntu.

What is ipband

ipband is:

This is a daemon which can monitor as many different subnets (or individual hosts, by specifying a “subnet” of /32) as you’d like. The reporting facility will only be triggered when a defined bandwidth level had been exceeded for a defined time.

Information reported includes the connections which are taking up the most bandwidth (ip address and port pairs). Reporting is done via email.

There are three methods to install ipband on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ipband Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ipband using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ipband

Install ipband Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ipband using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ipband

Install ipband Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ipband using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ipband

How To Uninstall ipband on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the ipband package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ipband

Uninstall ipband And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ipband and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ipband

Remove ipband Configurations and Data

To remove ipband configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ipband

Remove ipband configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ipband configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ipband
