Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install icoutils on Ubuntu.
What is icoutils
icoutils is:
Icoutils is a set of programs that deal with MS Windows icons and cursors. Resources such as icons and cursors can be extracted from MS Windows executable and library files with “wrestool”. Conversion of these files to and from PNG images is done with “icotool”. “extresso” automates these tasks with the help of special resource scripts.
This package can be used to create “favicon.ico” files for web sites.
There are three methods to install icoutils on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install icoutils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install icoutils using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install icoutils
Install icoutils Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install icoutils using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install icoutils
Install icoutils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install icoutils using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install icoutils
How To Uninstall icoutils on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the icoutils package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove icoutils

To uninstall icoutils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove icoutils
Remove icoutils Configurations and Data
To remove icoutils configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge icoutils
