In this tutorial we learn how to install hyperfine on Ubuntu.
What is hyperfine
hyperfine is:
Developed in Rust, hyperfine provides the following features:
- Statistical analysis across multiple runs.
- Support for arbitrary shell commands.
- Constant feedback about the benchmark progress and current estimates.
- Warmup runs can be executed before the actual benchmark.
- Cache-clearing commands can be set up before each timing run.
- Statistical outlier detection to detect interference from other programs and caching effects.
- Export results to various formats: CSV, JSON, Markdown, AsciiDoc.
- Parameterized benchmarks (e.g. vary the number of threads).
There are three methods to install hyperfine on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install hyperfine Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install hyperfine using apt-get by running the following command:
