Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install hub on Ubuntu.

What is hub

hub is:

hub is a command line tool that wraps git in order to extend it with extra functionality that make working with GitHub easier.

$ hub clone rtomayko/tilt

expands to:

$ git clone git://github.com/rtomayko/tilt.git

hub is best aliased as git, so you can type “git ” in the shell and get all the usual hub features.

You should place this command in your .bash_profile or other startup script:

eval “$(hub alias -s)”

This package contains the binaries.

There are three methods to install hub on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install hub Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install hub using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install hub

Install hub Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install hub using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install hub

Install hub Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install hub using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install hub

How To Uninstall hub on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the hub package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove hub

Uninstall hub And Its Dependencies

To uninstall hub and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove hub

Remove hub Configurations and Data

To remove hub configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge hub

Remove hub configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove hub configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge hub
