In this tutorial we learn how to install horizon-eda on Ubuntu.

What is horizon-eda

horizon-eda is:

Horizon is an Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tool for circuit board design. It manages the full design flow from schematic entry to gerber export. The main differentiator from KiCAD is a different (more sane) part library design. It is quite new software in 2018 so may have rough edges but is already very capable.

There are three methods to install horizon-eda on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install horizon-eda Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install horizon-eda using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install horizon-eda

Install horizon-eda Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install horizon-eda using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install horizon-eda

Install horizon-eda Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install horizon-eda using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install horizon-eda

How To Uninstall horizon-eda on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the horizon-eda package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove horizon-eda

Uninstall horizon-eda And Its Dependencies

To uninstall horizon-eda and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove horizon-eda

Remove horizon-eda Configurations and Data

To remove horizon-eda configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge horizon-eda

Remove horizon-eda configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove horizon-eda configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge horizon-eda
