Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install gthumb-dev on Ubuntu.

What is gthumb-dev

gthumb-dev is:

gThumb is an advanced image viewer and browser. It has many useful features, such as filesystem browsing, slide show, image catalogs, web album creation, camera import, image CD burning, batch file operations and quick image editing features like transformation and color manipulation.

It’s designed for GNOME desktop environment and uses its platform. For camera import feature, the gPhoto2 library is used.

This package contains the files needed to develop third-party extensions.

There are three methods to install gthumb-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gthumb-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gthumb-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gthumb-dev

Install gthumb-dev Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gthumb-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gthumb-dev

Install gthumb-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gthumb-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gthumb-dev

How To Uninstall gthumb-dev on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the gthumb-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gthumb-dev

Uninstall gthumb-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gthumb-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gthumb-dev

Remove gthumb-dev Configurations and Data

To remove gthumb-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gthumb-dev

Remove gthumb-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gthumb-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gthumb-dev
