Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install gstreamer1.0-gtk3 on Ubuntu.

What is gstreamer1.0-gtk3

gstreamer1.0-gtk3 is:

GStreamer is a streaming media framework, based on graphs of filters which operate on media data. Applications using this library can do anything from real-time sound processing to playing videos, and just about anything else media-related. Its plugin-based architecture means that new data types or processing capabilities can be added simply by installing new plug-ins.

This package contains the GStreamer plugin for GTK+3.

There are three methods to install gstreamer1.0-gtk3 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gstreamer1.0-gtk3 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gstreamer1.0-gtk3 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gstreamer1.0-gtk3

Install gstreamer1.0-gtk3 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gstreamer1.0-gtk3 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gstreamer1.0-gtk3

Install gstreamer1.0-gtk3 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gstreamer1.0-gtk3 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gstreamer1.0-gtk3

How To Uninstall gstreamer1.0-gtk3 on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the gstreamer1.0-gtk3 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gstreamer1.0-gtk3

Uninstall gstreamer1.0-gtk3 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gstreamer1.0-gtk3 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gstreamer1.0-gtk3

Remove gstreamer1.0-gtk3 Configurations and Data

To remove gstreamer1.0-gtk3 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gstreamer1.0-gtk3

Remove gstreamer1.0-gtk3 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gstreamer1.0-gtk3 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gstreamer1.0-gtk3
