Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install golang-petname on Ubuntu.

What is golang-petname

golang-petname is:

This utility will generate “pet names”, consisting of a random combination of an adverb, adjective, and proper name. These are useful for unique hostnames, for instance. The default packaging contains about 2000 names, 1300 adjectives, and 4000 adverbs, yielding nearly 10 billion unique combinations, covering over 32 bits of unique namespace. As such, PetName tries to follow the tenets of Zooko’s triangle: names are human meaningful, decentralized, and secure.

There are three methods to install golang-petname on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install golang-petname Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install golang-petname using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install golang-petname

Install golang-petname Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install golang-petname using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install golang-petname

Install golang-petname Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install golang-petname using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install golang-petname

How To Uninstall golang-petname on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the golang-petname package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove golang-petname

Uninstall golang-petname And Its Dependencies

To uninstall golang-petname and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove golang-petname

Remove golang-petname Configurations and Data

To remove golang-petname configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge golang-petname

Remove golang-petname configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove golang-petname configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge golang-petname
