In this tutorial we learn how to install go-qrcode on Ubuntu.
What is go-qrcode
go-qrcode is:
Package qrcode implements a QR Code encoder in Go language.
A QR Code is a matrix (two-dimensional) barcode. Arbitrary content may be encoded, with URLs being a popular choice :)
Each QR Code contains error recovery information to aid reading damaged or obscured codes. There are four levels of error recovery: Low, medium, high and highest. QR Codes with a higher recovery level are more robust to damage, at the cost of being physically larger.
The maximum capacity of a QR Code varies according to the content encoded and the error recovery level. The maximum capacity is 2,953 bytes, 4,296 alphanumeric characters, 7,089 numeric digits, or a combination of these.
This package contains the command-line tool qrcode.
There are three methods to install go-qrcode on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install go-qrcode Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install go-qrcode using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install go-qrcode
Install go-qrcode Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install go-qrcode using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install go-qrcode
Install go-qrcode Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install go-qrcode using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install go-qrcode
How To Uninstall go-qrcode on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the go-qrcode package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove go-qrcode
Uninstall go-qrcode And Its Dependencies
To uninstall go-qrcode and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove go-qrcode
Remove go-qrcode Configurations and Data
To remove go-qrcode configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge go-qrcode
Remove go-qrcode configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove go-qrcode configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge go-qrcode
