In this tutorial we learn how to install gnokii-cli on Ubuntu.

What is gnokii-cli

gnokii-cli is:

Gnokii is a suite of programs that allows communication with mobile phones. It currently supports many Nokia mobile phones, all AT capable ones as well as many Symbian based. For a list of compatible phones, please visit: http://wiki.gnokii.org

This package provides the command line interface and the virtual modem daemon for non-AT-capable phones.

There are three methods to install gnokii-cli on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gnokii-cli Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gnokii-cli using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gnokii-cli

Install gnokii-cli Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gnokii-cli using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gnokii-cli

Install gnokii-cli Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gnokii-cli using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gnokii-cli

How To Uninstall gnokii-cli on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the gnokii-cli package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gnokii-cli

Uninstall gnokii-cli And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gnokii-cli and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gnokii-cli

Remove gnokii-cli Configurations and Data

To remove gnokii-cli configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gnokii-cli

Remove gnokii-cli configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gnokii-cli configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gnokii-cli
