What is git-email

git-email is:

Git is popular version control system designed to handle very large projects with speed and efficiency; it is used for many high profile open source projects, most notably the Linux kernel.

Git falls in the category of distributed source code management tools. Every Git working directory is a full-fledged repository with full revision tracking capabilities, not dependent on network access or a central server.

This package provides the git-send-email program for sending series of patch emails.

There are three methods to install git-email on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install git-email Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install git-email using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install git-email

Install git-email Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install git-email using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install git-email

Install git-email Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install git-email using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install git-email

How To Uninstall git-email on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the git-email package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove git-email

Uninstall git-email And Its Dependencies

To uninstall git-email and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove git-email

Remove git-email Configurations and Data

To remove git-email configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge git-email

We can use the following command to remove git-email configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge git-email
