Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install git-absorb on Ubuntu.

What is git-absorb

git-absorb is:

git-absorb is a port of hg absorb to Git.

git absorb automatically identifies which commits are safe to modify, and which indexed changes belong to each of those commits. It then writes fixup! commits for each of those changes. These fixups can later be folded into the feature branch with Git’s built-in autosquash functionality.

This package contains the following binaries built from the Rust crate “git-absorb”:

There are three methods to install git-absorb on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install git-absorb Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install git-absorb using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install git-absorb

Install git-absorb Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install git-absorb using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install git-absorb

Install git-absorb Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install git-absorb using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install git-absorb

How To Uninstall git-absorb on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the git-absorb package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove git-absorb

Uninstall git-absorb And Its Dependencies

To uninstall git-absorb and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove git-absorb

Remove git-absorb Configurations and Data

To remove git-absorb configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge git-absorb

Remove git-absorb configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove git-absorb configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge git-absorb
