In this tutorial we learn how to install gazebo-common on Ubuntu.

What is gazebo-common

gazebo-common is:

Gazebo is a multi-robot simulator for outdoor environments. Like Stage (part of the Player project), it is capable of simulating a population of robots, sensors and objects, but does so in a three-dimensional world. It generates both realistic sensor feedback and physically plausible interactions between objects (it includes an accurate simulation of rigid-body physics).

This package contains shared files such as 3d models, worlds and robots.

There are three methods to install gazebo-common on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gazebo-common Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gazebo-common using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gazebo-common

Install gazebo-common Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gazebo-common using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gazebo-common

Install gazebo-common Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gazebo-common using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gazebo-common

How To Uninstall gazebo-common on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the gazebo-common package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gazebo-common

Uninstall gazebo-common And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gazebo-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gazebo-common

Remove gazebo-common Configurations and Data

To remove gazebo-common configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gazebo-common

Remove gazebo-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gazebo-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gazebo-common
