How To Install gambas3 on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install gambas3 on Ubuntu.

What is gambas3

gambas3 is:

Gambas is a free development environment based on a Basic interpreter with object extensions, like Visual Basic(tm) (but it is NOT a clone!). With Gambas, you can quickly design your program GUI, access MySQL or PostgreSQL databases, pilot KDE applications with DCOP, translate your program into many languages, and so on…

This package doesn’t include anything: it is a metapackage to install the IDE and all the available Gambas components except deprecated ones, the gtk3, and the qt5 components.

There are three methods to install gambas3 on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gambas3 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gambas3 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gambas3

Install gambas3 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gambas3 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gambas3

Install gambas3 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gambas3 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gambas3

How To Uninstall gambas3 on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the gambas3 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gambas3

Uninstall gambas3 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gambas3 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gambas3

Remove gambas3 Configurations and Data

To remove gambas3 configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gambas3

Remove gambas3 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gambas3 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gambas3
