In this tutorial we learn how to install fonts-roboto-unhinted on Ubuntu.

What is fonts-roboto-unhinted

fonts-roboto-unhinted is:

Roboto is Google’s signature family of fonts, the default font in Android and ChromeOS and the recommended font for Google’s visual language, Material Design.

Roboto supports all Latin, Cyrillic, and Greek characters in Unicode 7.0 as well as currency symbol for the Georgian lari, to be published in Unicode 8.0.

This package contains Roboto font families which lack hinting.

There are three methods to install fonts-roboto-unhinted on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install fonts-roboto-unhinted Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install fonts-roboto-unhinted using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install fonts-roboto-unhinted

Install fonts-roboto-unhinted Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install fonts-roboto-unhinted using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install fonts-roboto-unhinted

Install fonts-roboto-unhinted Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install fonts-roboto-unhinted using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install fonts-roboto-unhinted

How To Uninstall fonts-roboto-unhinted on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the fonts-roboto-unhinted package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove fonts-roboto-unhinted

To uninstall fonts-roboto-unhinted and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove fonts-roboto-unhinted

To remove fonts-roboto-unhinted configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge fonts-roboto-unhinted

Remove fonts-roboto-unhinted configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove fonts-roboto-unhinted configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge fonts-roboto-unhinted
