Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install fonts-dejavu on Ubuntu.
What is fonts-dejavu
fonts-dejavu is:
DejaVu provides an expanded version of the Vera font family aiming for quality and broader Unicode coverage while retaining the original Vera style. DejaVu currently works towards conformance with the Multilingual European Standards (MES-1 and MES-2) for Unicode coverage. The DejaVu fonts provide serif, sans and monospaced variants.
Use this package if you want all DejaVu variants.
DejaVu fonts are intended for use on low-resolution devices (mainly computer screens) but can be used in printing as well.
There are three methods to install fonts-dejavu on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install fonts-dejavu Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install fonts-dejavu using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install fonts-dejavu
Install fonts-dejavu Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install fonts-dejavu using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install fonts-dejavu
Install fonts-dejavu Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install fonts-dejavu using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install fonts-dejavu
How To Uninstall fonts-dejavu on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the fonts-dejavu package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove fonts-dejavu
Uninstall fonts-dejavu And Its Dependencies
To uninstall fonts-dejavu and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove fonts-dejavu
Remove fonts-dejavu Configurations and Data
To remove fonts-dejavu configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge fonts-dejavu
Remove fonts-dejavu configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove fonts-dejavu configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge fonts-dejavu
