In this tutorial we learn how to install fonts-cantarell on Ubuntu.

What is fonts-cantarell

fonts-cantarell is:

The Cantarell font family is designed as a contemporary Humanist sans serif and is particularly designed for on-screen reading on mobile devices at small sizes, such as phones and tablets.

This is the open font officially chosen by default for the GNOME 3 desktop and for Fedora branding materials.

Regular and bold weights are provided for now. Italics are planned.

Each font file currently contains 391 glyphs, and fully support the following writing systems: Basic Latin, Western European, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Dutch and Afrikaans.

There are three methods to install fonts-cantarell on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install fonts-cantarell Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install fonts-cantarell using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install fonts-cantarell

Install fonts-cantarell Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install fonts-cantarell using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install fonts-cantarell

Install fonts-cantarell Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install fonts-cantarell using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install fonts-cantarell

How To Uninstall fonts-cantarell on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the fonts-cantarell package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove fonts-cantarell

Uninstall fonts-cantarell And Its Dependencies

To uninstall fonts-cantarell and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove fonts-cantarell

Remove fonts-cantarell Configurations and Data

To remove fonts-cantarell configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge fonts-cantarell

Remove fonts-cantarell configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove fonts-cantarell configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge fonts-cantarell
