Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install figlet on Ubuntu.

What is figlet

figlet is:

FIGlet (Frank, Ian & Glenn’s Letters) is a program that creates large characters out of ordinary screen characters.

It can create characters in many different styles and can kern and “smush” these characters together in various ways. FIGlet output is generally reminiscent of the sort of “signatures” many people like to put at the end of e-mail, Usenet and MOTD messages.

There are three methods to install figlet on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install figlet Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install figlet using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install figlet

Install figlet Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install figlet using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install figlet

Install figlet Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install figlet using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install figlet

How To Uninstall figlet on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the figlet package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove figlet

Uninstall figlet And Its Dependencies

To uninstall figlet and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove figlet

Remove figlet Configurations and Data

To remove figlet configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge figlet

Remove figlet configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove figlet configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge figlet
