In this tutorial we learn how to install feynmf on Ubuntu.
What is feynmf
feynmf is:
FeynMF is a LaTeX package for easy drawing of professional-quality Feynman diagrams, illustrations that depict the fundamental interactions of subatomic particles. The diagrams may be created using either the Metafont or MetaPost programs. FeynMF lays out most diagrams satisfactorily from the structure of the graph without any need for manual intervention. Nevertheless all the power of Metafont or MetaPost is available for more obscure cases.
Note that you will need the texlive-metapost package in order to use the MetaPost-based version of FeynMF.
There are three methods to install feynmf on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install feynmf Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install feynmf using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install feynmf
Install feynmf Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install feynmf using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install feynmf

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install feynmf using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install feynmf
How To Uninstall feynmf on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the feynmf package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove feynmf
Uninstall feynmf And Its Dependencies
To uninstall feynmf and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove feynmf
Remove feynmf Configurations and Data
To remove feynmf configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge feynmf
