In this tutorial we learn how to install fastq-pair on Ubuntu.
What is fastq-pair
fastq-pair is:
This package rewrites the fastq files with the sequences in order, with matching files for the two files provided on the command line, and then any single reads that are not matched are place in two separate files, one for each original file.
This code is designed to be fast and memory efficient, and works with large fastq files. It does not store the whole file in memory, but rather just stores the locations of each of the indices in the first file provided in memory.
There are three methods to install fastq-pair on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install fastq-pair Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install fastq-pair using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install fastq-pair

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install fastq-pair using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install fastq-pair
Install fastq-pair Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install fastq-pair using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install fastq-pair
How To Uninstall fastq-pair on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the fastq-pair package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove fastq-pair
Uninstall fastq-pair And Its Dependencies
To uninstall fastq-pair and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove fastq-pair
Remove fastq-pair Configurations and Data
To remove fastq-pair configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge fastq-pair
