How To Install expect-lite on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install expect-lite on Ubuntu.

What is expect-lite

expect-lite is:

Written in expect, it is designed to directly map an interactive terminal session into an automation script. expect-lite scripts use special character(s) at the beginning of each line to indicate the action. Basic expect-lite scripts can be created by simply cutting and pasting text from a terminal window into a script, and adding ‘>’ ‘<’ characters. No knowledge of expect is required!

There are three methods to install expect-lite on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install expect-lite Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install expect-lite using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install expect-lite

Install expect-lite Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install expect-lite using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install expect-lite

Install expect-lite Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install expect-lite using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install expect-lite

How To Uninstall expect-lite on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the expect-lite package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove expect-lite

Uninstall expect-lite And Its Dependencies

To uninstall expect-lite and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove expect-lite

Remove expect-lite Configurations and Data

To remove expect-lite configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge expect-lite

Remove expect-lite configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove expect-lite configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge expect-lite
