Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install etoys on Ubuntu.
What is etoys
etoys is:
Squeak Etoys was inspired by LOGO, PARC-Smalltalk, Hypercard, and starLOGO. It is a media-rich authoring environment with a simple powerful scripted object model for many kinds of objects created by end-users that runs on many platforms, and is free and open source. It includes 2D and 3D graphics, images, text, particles, presentations, web-pages, videos, sound and MIDI, etc. It includes the ability to share desktops with other Etoy users in real-time, so many forms of immersive mentoring and play can be done over the Internet.
This is the Squeak image developed for the OLPC project.
There are three methods to install etoys on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install etoys Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install etoys using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install etoys
Install etoys Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install etoys using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install etoys
Install etoys Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install etoys using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install etoys
How To Uninstall etoys on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the etoys package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove etoys
Uninstall etoys And Its Dependencies
To uninstall etoys and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove etoys
Remove etoys Configurations and Data
To remove etoys configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge etoys
Remove etoys configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove etoys configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge etoys
